The Northern Great Plain, made up of Hajdú-Bihar, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties, is primarily an agricultural and food-processing region, but it also has growing industrial sectors in chemicals, machinery, and electronics. Debrecen, the region's largest city, is an emerging hub for pharmaceutical and biotech industries, as well as logistics, due to its well-developed transport connections. The region has attracted significant FDI, especially in automotive and electronics manufacturing, but its economy still relies heavily on agriculture. The development of industrial parks and improved transportation infrastructure are key to the region’s ongoing industrial growth.
